Firstly, on the wedding day, I am always available to my clients all day and for as long as they require my services in the evening. You are paying a lot of money for a photographer and I don't think its right to charge clients by the hour or for extra services. My thinking on this is that if you book me to cover an event then its my job to cover that event in as much detail as possible and for the duration.
I class myself as a documentary wedding photographer, this means I like to hang back and photograph events as they occur naturally. I do not feel comfortable staging shots and telling people how to act to enhance an image, I believe one of the skills in documentary photography is to be able to capture a moment as it happens using positioning, available light and technical know how. For me this also requires a certain mind-set on the day and I need to be allowed the freedom to do this.
Traditional Shots:
I am always happy to set time aside and supply a set of traditional family shots as I feel it is important to document who is present at such a big event in the family calendar. It is up to you as the client to decide how much time is spent on this. I am extremely efficient with this process and can usually complete this section of the wedding day in good time.
Bride & Groom Portraits:
I am happy to supply a set of Bride & Groom portraits but rather than stage events and set up falsified photographs I prefer it if you guys take a walk, have a bit of time to yourself and just act naturally whist I work away in the background.
Booking Enquires:
Generally upon receiving an enquiry if things move forward after initial correspondence I always think its helpful to arrange a meeting, either in person or if not possible via Skype. Its good to have a chat and see if we're compatible and I need to make sure I can deliver on your expectations.
Admittedly I started out shooting weddings simply as a favour to friends and family and was at first a little hesitant to take it any further due to that stigma which can be attached to wedding photography. A few years ago my outlook changed when documentary wedding photographers started achieving more recognition, and some of the wedding photography I was seeing was really credible as its own art form.
Weddings can be one of the most interesting subjects to cover as a proffessional photographer, due to the amount of emotion involved and the often splendid surroundings. I came to the conclusion that if I could work in this environment, producing beautiful photographs whilst still meeting my own artistic values then this was the career for me.
When not photographing weddings I spend most of my time working as a freelance design consultant for various advertising agencies. I have a huge interest in music and this influences a lot of what I do and a big part of the reason I moved to London. I am also interested in art, history, fashion & architecture.
Generally, I am a friendly relaxed guy who likes to get on with everyone.
